Sorry for the late post—it’s been a tough week. I nearly got fired twice and have been focusing on my mental health. I’m grappling with a mentally exhausting spiritual dilemma, and I feel burned out and need a change. I set aside the Avalon series and decided to return to some light, purely pleasurable reading. (read my review of Lady of Avalon to understand why). So I picked up Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer. I’ve had it for a while, and have been meaning to read it but it never seemed to be the right time, until now. So here are my top 5 books I wish had more (fill in the blank).
- Avalon series by Marion Zimmer Bradley
I wish the Avalon series had more action—if that’s the right word. I want to be more inside the characters’ heads, with more detail and showing instead of just telling. Right now, it feels like I’m being told a story, as if I’m sitting at someone’s feet, listening to them recount their life. While I get that this might be the intent, it would be more engaging to read it in a modern, more immersive style.
2. Gilded by Marissa Meyer
I wish Gilded had more romance.
3. Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon
I wish there had been more character development, with Talasyn’s journey from poor orphan girl to rich princess being more gradual. While the focus was clearly on the romance and acceptance between the characters, it would have been nice to see more of Talasyn’s growth during the time jump.
4. Draw down the moon by P.C Cast
I wish there was less emphasis on liberal ideas/LGBT characters. It just made it tacky and preachy. I am asexual, which is in a way part of the LGBT, as well as a proponent of LGBT rights, so this statement doesn’t come from hatred or ignorance.
5. Gothikana by Runyx
I wish there was less lust and more love in the romance.
Thanks for reading my TTT for this week, make sure to leave a comment and a link to your blog so I can check it out. Because it is the beginning of the month, I invite you to check out my August Monthly Reads post. I also want to know, what book are you currently reading?

It sounds like you’ve had a tough week. I hope next week is better for you. Job stress can be so overwhelming.
I’m on the asexual spectrum too and do get tired and bored all of all of the sexual content in media, too. (Totally fine for others to consume it, of course. I’d just rather read about other stuff).
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
